What stays on your device

Your current song and the teacher-only key for the last class board are stored in that browser’s local storage. You can clear these in browser settings. Student compositions can also be saved as links or WAV/MIDI files on the device.

What a class pass or song link contains

A student class pass contains an opaque board reference, an unguessable submit-only key, and an expiry. It works on another device but cannot read the teacher’s private board. A song link carries the song title, notes, tempo, scale, length, and instrument choices in the URL itself. Anyone who receives a pass or song link can use the capability or read the song data, so do not use full names or include sensitive information in song titles.

What the class gallery stores

When a student presses “Send to class gallery,” Gridsong stores only the classroom nickname, composition, submission time, and security hashes needed to operate that board. It does not ask for names, email addresses, audio recordings, microphone access, location, or accounts. Boards and their submissions expire after 90 days and are rejected immediately; expired records are removed in bounded cleanup during later board creation. Teachers can remove a submission sooner.

What we do not do

The app includes no advertising, behavioral analytics, cookies, fingerprinting, third-party fonts, or third-party scripts. The hosting service may process basic request logs for security and reliability. We do not sell or use classroom submissions for advertising or profiling.

Children and schools

Teachers should ask students to use classroom nicknames, initials, or assigned aliases. Schools remain responsible for their own policies and consent requirements.
